Here’s a miracle from “Samantha”…
In 2005 I was coming out of a horrible depression…and I was in the middle of a job search. I had bought a book called “Lincoln’s Melancholy” and was reading about what our 16th president endured with his own depression.
Driving to a meeting with a recruiter, I was in the dark hole that is depression. I kept thinking, “she won’t believe my resume,” and “I’m not good enough” — all the negative thoughts that become normal during depression.
Suddenly I had the thought, if Lincoln had depression and was able to emancipate the slaves, I can get through this conversation. I walked in to the office and signed in with the receptionist and while waiting for the recruiter to come out, I did a very strange thing I had never done before: I prayed, “I pray for the spirit of Lincoln to help me get through this conversation.”
Finally, the recruiter came out and introduced herself. I shook her hand and then turned around to pick up my briefcase that was next to where I had been sitting. I glanced up at the wall above the chair and there I saw I picture of the Lincoln Memorial. Needless to say, I walked into her office feeling carried and taken care of. The 16th President of these United States freed me in that moment of the darkness of depression.
